This series is such a great idea! I’m looking forward to the tips about teaching young kids to knit and crochet. As a teacher for adults, I get perplexed when faced with kids who want to knit but we muddle through!

These are really good episodes. I am 12 years old and have been knitting for about 3 years, crocheting for 2. I smetimes teach my friends to knit, and I have a 3 year old cousin that could have some fun with this. He will have two sisters in July and I hope to teach them some yarn crafting things when they are older. =-)

Hi Yarn Craft, there seems to be an “error in opening file,” when I try to listen. There’s no sound, I really am excited about this episode, being that I have a little niece I try to teach how to crochet every now and then. Hope I get to listen.

Awesome to hear that kids as young as 3 use spool knitters! I can’t wait to get my son started on one instead of him banging my needles like drumsticks.
On your Yarncraft blog when it comes to knit or crochet patterns would you please consider to indicate if something is knit or crochet? For example instead of ‘Market Bag’ put ‘Crochet Market Bag’ or some indication if it is knit or crochet. This would help those who are one craft yarn crafters. (I knit but hardly crochet unless a chain counts….). I know it is discussed in the show but I listen away from the computer.
Keep up the great work. I really enjoy listening.
YarnCraft says: Hi Jennifer, good suggestion! We’ll keep it in mind for the future.

I’m looking forward to the summer series. I have grandchildren that like to do crafts, so hopefully you’ll have great ideas of things I can do with them. Thanks.

Hi-love your podcasts! I can’t waut for the tips on teaching kids to knit. I am starting to teach my seven-year-old son who is very eager to learn. I definitely need some guidance. Thanks!

My six year old daughter has been dying to learn to knit for over one year! I’m so excited to hear your tips on teaching knitting to kids. She loves to do embroidery (primitive stitch) on muslin - her own drawn designs, which she rapidly turns into doll pillows and blankets. Would love some ideas on how to teach, what yarns, needles to use and how to avoid frustration. Would love to win the basket to get us started. Thanks!

This is a great series and so timely! I have a 6yr. old son who loves to do mosaics. I am hoping he will be interested in crocheting soon and am looking forward to your suggestions about teaching children. For Mother’s Day, my son made his grandma a pencil holder and loved wrapping the yarn around a plastic condensed juice container. I’ll have to try a yarn and glue project this summer when we can be outside. He will love that.
Thanks for the great podcasts. Keep them coming.

I love the new format and subjects. I am very interested in getting my daughters to crochet with me. Thanks for the tips on setting up a craft area and choosing yarns. Look forward to more podcasts!

I love this series! It is always great to hear of new projects to do as a family. My daughter and I dream of having a complete room for our crafting adventures.
Thank you for giving us new ideas!

I love the children’s crafting ideas. I have a 7 year old grandson who has always been fascinated by “Grandma’s knitting” and I was thinking about teaching him the spool knitting. Has anyone else done this with a young boy and and did he like it?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can’t wait to hear the rest of the series.
I am a relatively new teacher and crafter. I have just started doing some crafting with my class this term (6 to 10 year olds) and they love it! We have been making pompoms, spool knitting, cross stitching and I have been teaching basic sewing skills like how to sew a button.
You are right children really love spool knitting. They are addicted. We used empty toilet rolls, elastics and popsicle sticks to make a spool.
I would love to hear about more projects I could do with my class. In particular, what can we do with felt, pipe cleaners and foam sheets? Can you suggest any objects kids could make with plastic canvas? I am looking forward to the episodes on knitting and crochet.
I would also love to hear from other teachers or mothers who sew or craft with their children. It would be great to share ideas and experiences.
Thanks again for the great podcast.

And yes, Holly, the boys really enjoy spool knitting.

What a great intro episode to crafting with kids this summer. I teach kids knitting, crochet and felting at my lys and am looking forward to more ideas of crafts for “my” kids to work on.
One project that the kids really enjoyed last summer was to use the wet felting technique to create a crochet hook holder.
Your podcasts are great!

Having raised 5 children, I think the suggestions made on the June 9th’s episode of summer crafting with kids were excellent. I especially liked the tip to let the kids pick out their own yarn with which they want to use. Using textures and colors of yarn that interests them, will surely help to keep them excited about finishing their first project! Spool knitting is also an excellent suggestion. I “spool knitted” when I first started knitting…that was 47 years ago and I am still knitting and crocheting!

I love listening to the YarnCraft Podcasts. And I can’t wait to make some of the kid’s toys for my sister. She is due in September. Thanks for all the great ideas!
